What causes teeth discoloration?
There are a number of causes of tooth discoloration. Some of these include:

Frequently drinking coffee, tea, or colas.
Some antibiotics may darken developing teeth in children.
Aging - The dentin underneath the enamel of a tooth gradually darkens with age.
Use of tobacco products.
Accidents - If a tooth has been traumatized, sometimes the nerve will gradually "die," and the tooth becomes dark.
After Root Canal Therapy, a tooth will generally darken.

How does the whitening process work?
The whitening process is pretty simple and painless.
1.) Are you a candidate for teeth whitening? This will be discussed between Dr. Adams and yourself. In this appointment we will discuss the health impacts and the possible effects of teeth whitening.
2.) If you are a candidate, we will schedule an appointment to take impressions and initial photos to track your progress.
3.) After the impressions are taken, our lab will fashion a mold that is designed to fit around your teeth and to avoid contact with your gums.
4.) Take the molds home and bleach according to the instructions Dr. Adams gives you. The length of bleaching should be discussed with the doctor depending on your intended shade goal.
5.) A follow up visit may or may not be necessary depending on sensitivity. Dr. Adams and his staff will discuss this with you. |
